Local Cycling
Mevagissey
is situated
just off
the Cornish Way. Cycles can be hired
by the hour, day or week at nearby Pentewan.
Access to the national cycleway is from Pentewan and the 5 mile
cycle to
Saint Austell is a very pleasant run on flat terrain suitable for
families with

Beaches,
Coves and Walks
These are too many to mention, every
which way you turn there is a new place to walk or a cove to find. In the property there
are books on fabulous circular walks, outstanding beaches and
leaflets
on local activities.Visitors are very welcome to
make use of these and
leave them well cared for so that others can enjoy
them. Mevagissey itself has the
lovely Polstreath cove which
can be walked to from the harbour in around 15 minutes if you are
prepared to climb. There are around 200
steps to reach it so it is not suitable for wheelchair access. More
accessible closeby beaches include Par
Beach and Portmellon

Mevagissey Harbour attractions
The Harbour in
Mevagissey has a joyous
atmosphere with plenty to see and do. The Mevagissey museum
offers an
excellent insight into life in the port through the
ages.
The displays outline Mevagissey into the smuggling
activities
that
were once prevalent in the town. The
museum is open all year round and admission is free.
The Mevagissey
Aquarium has an
excellent display showing
the
animals
that abound in
the sea off the Cornish coast.
This is a perfect place to take the kids as the tanks are
large
enough to offer good views ofthe fis h and the aquarium is a
good
choice on a
wet day.Admission is free although a
donation for the upkeep of the aquarium is gratefully received. Fishing
and boat trips : There is a
Fowey ferry leaving from the harbour
or you can book a fishing trip. Alternatively take a sea safari leaving
from Falmouth ferrryscornwall.co.uk/ferries/orca or just relax on the quayside
and
watch the
fishermen and divers.
The Eden Project
The Eden
Project is Cornwall's busiest visitor attraction but with plenty
of space a lots to do all year round , including an
ice rink in the
winter. This is a not to be
missed place to go with exciting events,
talks, children's activities, and of
course the

Wheal Martyn China Clay Country Park and Museum, St Austell
Set within the 26 acre site of two former 19th
centuary china clay works. Wheal Martyn takes you through the story of
china clay production from 1800 to the
present day. There's plenty of
variety for all the fammily in the form of three trails plus the

The Lost Gardens of Heligan
Very close to
the proprety these
mysterious gardens offer an impressive range of wild flora and
fauna,visitors are eelcome to
explore the Heligan landscape to observe both common and rare

Mevagissey Pubs:
The harbour and town area of
Mevagissey are home to a variety of pubs many
offering wholesome food and several renowned for
their fresh fish dishes. For example the 15th Centuary Fountain Inn
specialising in locally caught
fish and prime steaks or The
Harbour Tavern
situated right on the Quay with views across the harbour.
Just wonder down from the
cottage and look for yourself,
there is plenty to choose from and a wealth of character.
Moving away from Mevagissey visit the nearby Rising
Sun Inn in Portmellon; a beamed bar serving a range of real ales and
bottled beers or drop in to The
Ship Inn at Pentewan
set in a
pretty village and boasting a beer garden on the old harbourside with
resident ducks and swans.
Mevagissey restaurants &
places to eat:
After supping you may want
to go elsewhere to eat. Mevagissey is
not short of choice when it comes to food. The choice includes
Alvorada
Restaurant on Polkirt Hill
which is an old
stablished Portuguese Restaurant using local produce and speciality
items from Portugal. Christophe's
boasts high quality food and high quality ingredients with local
meats, game,
fish and vegetables; The
Wheelhouse on the Quayside
is a family restaurant and
serves
hot
food all day from 9 until 4pm and opens for dinner
at 6pm. If you want to relax with a takeaway there are two fish and
chip shops and Little China
the Chinese takeaway.

beaches and rocks along the coast
There are a number of course fishing lakes nearby to Mevagissey
and of course excellent rivers. The closest fishery is

Mevagissey Sailing School is based in the harbour of
Mevagissey. It offers a wide range of sailing experiences ranging from
a very competitively priced hands-on introduction to sailing,
ideal
for families or small groups who have always wanted to have a go at
sailing.
Getting around
Rail: The nearest
rail station is at
Saint Austell at the top of the town. Trains run regularly on the
main West Coast line.
Buses
:Buses run to Saint Austell, Fowey, Gorran
Haven etc. The routes terminate at the Rising Sun
pub in the town and details of timetables can be found at the bus
stops there. Coaches
run from all over the country and pick up/drop off passengers at the
rail station in Saint Austell
Taxis: Mike’s Taxis are based in Mevagissey and

Ferry:
Ferry transfers are available to Fowey, subject to the weather.
